Memories Mixed Media Wall Display with Smoothfoam®

I have been on a mixed media spree of late and Smoothfoam® is an amazing surface to create on. Today I am using the 1x6x12" Smoothfoam Sheet as my base.

I started by gluing a layer of chipboard to the Smoothfoam® and then painting the entire surface with a coat of DecoArt Gesso from their Media Line.

I am so happy to be a member of the DecoArt Blogger program! I absolutely love their products - there are so many ways to use them and they never fail to give me the results I want!

Add the second layer of chipboard and coat this with gesso as well. Let everything dry well.

I began layering color on by using . After that I added fluid acrylics, then let those dry. My last layer of color was the Metallic Lustre - I added bits and pieces of color all over the piece randomly.

I added Crackle Glaze to a few of the pieces for some visual interest.

Last up I added accents on one piece of the chipboard using Liquid Glass. When dry I accented it with Metallic Lustre.

Winter Wonderland Passport Book

A couple of weekends ago I was fortunate enough to teach at a fabulous event at the Crafty Scrapper - our very first annual Christmas Carousel. I knew I wanted to use this Passport Book die by Eilleen Hull for Sizzix, so I grabbed some papers and got to work.

My papers for this project are from Kaisercraft - the Silver Bells line. I also added in lots of other media- because I can't just make a mini album with paper!

I created this first page using watercolor paper - I simply sealed the edges to make a pocket for my tag. The very cute ribbon on the edge is from Maya Road's Fall release.

My second page is made using an acetate sheet from American Crafts - I edged the die cut piece with a gold pen - a super easy way to add some glamour to your page!

So,, do you see these rhinestones here (the same ones I used on the cover)? Take my advice and don't shop Amazon Warehouse in the middle of the night! I seriously ordered a 30yd roll of this stuff one night!! 5" wide by 30YARDS long!! I am using it on everything these days!

The last page was made with a flat kraft bag - I just folded it in half and punched the holes to match .

My covers are die cut from matboard, and I finished the papers off with a coat of DecoArt Crackle Paint. When the crackle was dry, I added a light coat of Silver Metallic Lustre - it really gives the look of Mercury Glass.

Third Annual Thrift Benefit Linky Party

I am super happy to be participating in the Third Annual Thrift Benefit Linky Party for Sheltered Animals. This is such a great cause and very near and dear to my heart! Almost all the animals I have ever been blessed with have been adopted from a shelter or simply showed up on my door step. So many animals are in need of love - and did you know that in addition to donating to your local animal shelter you can also SHOP to help them out?? A While ago I picked up these great little drawer units at the Second Chance Treasures Thrift Store in Garland. 

These are eight separate drawers and they were $1.41 each - the deal of the century! I grabbed them up as soon as I saw them and stopped on the way home to buy some spray paint! Of course, I did not remember to take any photos of the actual process of spray painting them - please use your imagination!

I am guessing these were used in an office at one point.

They will now be holding this fabulous array of goodness that DecoArt was so kind to send me. If you have not checked out DecoArt's new Media Line of paints and mediums please run and do that right now because they are awesome!

And after painting they look like this! A wonderful new addition to my craft studio.

The drawers are the perfect size to hold the various pieces of the media and I can reach them easily from my work table.  I used Sign Tags from Deflecto Craft to label the drawers - the tags come with a chalk marker so you can erase/edit when you need to. I attached with removable glue dots so I can easily change the labels out.

Christmas in July with Smoothfoam and Robin's Nest

I have been uber busy working on some Christmas projects these last two weeks - in July no less- and here is the first one that I get to share with you!

Here is what I came up with.

I wanted to make something small that I could display Christmas goodies on come holiday time. I bake constantly during the holidays and I am always in search of some little something to put a few tid bits out on. For this I used:
Smoothfoam 8" Disc
Smoothfoam 3" Cube
Smoothfoam Ornament 
All the papers, pearls, die cut snowflakes, and ribbon are from Robins Nest.
The base is from IKEA- it is a candle holder. I used a gold paint pen to add some color to it. To attach it to the Smoothfoam Disc I used Aleene's Liquid Fusion.
To color the ornament shape on top I used DecoArt Metallic Luster Paint- this stuff is the BOMB folks- you should run right out to the store and pick some up. Seriously.

I can't wait for Christmas to roll around so I can throw down some cookies on this cute little thing.  The perfect size for 6 cupcakes. No one will ever know what happens to the other 6.
