Felt Balloon Banner for Fairfield World's 80th Birthday Party

Felt Balloon Banner

Fairfield World is celebrating their 80th Birthday and I jumped at the chance to join in the fun. There are 80 super creative people playing along and sharing fabulous projects using Poly-Fil.  I wanted to make something for Princess' bedroom and she wanted balloons - so here is what I came up with.

Cutting Felt Shapes

For this project I used the largest die from the Balloons set by Crafter's Edge. Y'all - I was able to easily cut two layers of felt at a time with these thin dies. Have you tried the Crafter's Edge Crossover II Die Cutting Machine? I love it! It is adjustable by using the roller on the top of the machine to accommodate a large variety of dies. I especially love that I can cut my large quilting dies with it. Plus- IT FOLDS UP  when you are ready to store it!

Felt Shapes

I picked up some fun felt packs while I was in Idaho recently and one was perfect for this project. The pastel colors are perfect against the gray walls in her room.

Kids Bedroom
I went low tech for the letters; printed them out, cut them out, traced onto the felt, then cut them out. Of course as I was doing this I realized that I could have cut the letters out using my Silhouette Cameo 4 instead of cutting them by hand. Oh well,, live and learn!  Have you seen these cute pink scissors - I picked them up at the Dollar Tree. They are SHARP! If you have a Dollar Tree near you run over there and see if you can find some. I bought a bunch! I think they will be perfect if we are ever allowed to have in person classes again.

Poly-fil stuffie
After sewing the letters on one side, then sewing the balloons together using matching embroidery floss I stuffed them with Poly-fil.

hand stitching

I have been working on my hand stitching lately. Even though I have sewn for pretty much my entire life, I have never taken the time to mindfully practice my hand stitching. I want those stitches perfectly spaced and even!

To finish of the balloon I added a cute silk flower and a bow made with twine, both attached with hot glue.

And there it is! I am pretty happy with how it turned out and my princess loves it.
