Taking photos in the bluebonnets is a Texas tradition. I am having so much fun with the princess each year going to take photos. This photo is from 2018 and I am just now getting around to getting it on a layout! I am behind, it is true. Then again I don't scrap in chronological order so I am never really behind.
This month the Designer Crafts Connection is having a hop sponsored by DCWV. They have provided each of the designers with samples of their new Petal Papers. They are so fun to work with! I was able to work with them for another project on my
Easter Tree. I made the cutest
paper peonies using the Petal Papers and I was so happy with how they turned out!

I was given a package of the blue Petal Papers and as soon as I saw the colors I know that I needed to use them with some bluebonnet photos. The colors are so vibrant and they were perfect.
I started by cutting a heart shape and using
Purple Tape from Therm-O-Web to hold it in place. I pulled out a variety of stamps and stamped randomly around the heart shape. I saw a layout like this on Pinterest and I LOVED it- I have been waiting for the perfect time to recreate it. I used
VersaFine in Onyx which is my favorite stamping ink. I love the crisp lines I get with it.
My background paper is a
Doodlebug Designs paper from the Petite Prints line. This pattern is Gingham and Linen - it's really cute. I am really happy with the look of the negative space in my layout - something I don't normally have :)
I cut a piece of the lighter blue Petal Paper 2" wide by the length of the paper then folded it in half lengthwise leaving one side just longer than the other. Pay attention to the grain of the paper - it stretches one way but not the other! I stretched the paper both sides along the length to ruffle it. It kinda looks like a weird sea slug 😅😅
I marked out where I wanted my photo to go and then used
1/8" adhesive tape to adhere the longer side of the the fold to my layout. Add a second piece of tape inside the fold and press the upper layer down on the tape. This will help control the ruffle!
After adding my photo to the layout I grabbed some small pearl embellishments and placed them right under my photo mat.
I wanted a little more color on the layout so I grabbed a small heart stamp and added just a few tiny pale pink hearts spaced around the page. A few paper flowers from my hoard with matching brads and I am done!
