Dot Painted Easter T-shirt - The Perfect Kid's Craft

Painted shirt
Are you sheltering at home and looking for new things to keep kids occupied? This is the perfect craft for you! You probably have everything you need on hand for this project. My princess loved doing these. It was a great way to spend an afternoon.

Kids crafts
I cut the bunny shape from freezer paper using my Cameo 4; the glossy vinyl setting works perfectly. Iron the pattern down on the shirt - shiny side down. Don't worry- it will not leave a residue when you pick it up. Freezer paper is a GREAT temporary stencil on fabric. I use it for all kinds of things.

Craft paint
Next up is paint. Although I love the Plaid Fabric Paints, I didn't have the right colors on hand for this project. Craft paint works  great too. This will not last forever- but it will last well beyond the point where she outgrows the shirt. Now- this is important - put a layer of waxed paper, or freezer paper, or a piece of cardboard inside the shirt! I TOTALLY forgot to do this with the first shirt we did- and the paint bled through to the back. So it's now a night shirt 😀😀  Learn from my mistakes!!

Monogrammed shirt
Grab some pencils and start dotting - kids love this! The only real rule is you want to make sure that there is a solid line around the stencil so when you pick the stencil up the outline is clear. Other than that- let them go at it! We worked with one color at a time, all the way around the stencil, then moved on to a new color. At the end (when she had lost interest!) I filled in a few bare spaces. Let it dry overnight.

Iron on letters

I used Joy® Iron-on Letters to add the words "hop hop" to the shirt, just inside the outline. Have you ever tried heat resistant tape when working with vinyl or other items that need to be ironed on? It is a life saver at times. When I am working with iron on letters I can put them where I want, then tape them down. This way I don't have to worry about them shifting when I am putting a pressing cloth on top. The tape leaves no residue and is really cheap. You can pick some up here.

That's it! Cute shirt for a super cute princess and one afternoon of shelter in place taken care of :)

How to make a Disney Countown Jar with a Thrift Store Cookie Jar!

This post may contain affiliate links.

Disney countdown

We are taking our whole family to Walt Disney World this fall and I am SO excited y'all! I can't wait. I have been wanting a way to countdown the days with the princess AND store the gift cards we have been collecting and this vintage thrift store cookie jar fit the bill perfectly. And it was a buck! What a steal!

Vintage cookie jar
For this project I used the following supplies:
Cookie jar make over
This project was a breeze to assemble.
  1. Paint the chipboard with the Plaid Chalkboard paint. You need two coats, dry between coats. Use the side of a piece of chalk to rub all over the chalkboard then wipe it clean. This "conditions" the chalkboard so that it is east to clean after each use. Set aside.
  2. Trace the jar onto the patterned paper and trim to fit. Mine is slightly smaller than the jar front.
  3. Use the low temp glue gun to adhere to letters to the strip of cardstock. Adhere the cardstock to the patterned paper using tape runner and trim to fit. Adhere additional letters below cardstock strip.
  4. Adhere patterned paper to jar front using tape runner.
  5. Trim daisy from bunch and adhere to chipboard with glue gun. Use glue gun to adhere chipboard to front of jar. Write message on chipboard using chalk.
  6. Done!
Embroidered flowers
I decided at the last minute that my project needed these cute little daisy accents. I absolutely love this new line from Joy. Be sure to look for them in your favorite craft store next time you are shopping.

Dino Birthday Bash

It's all about dinosaurs at my house right now. We have a grandchild's birthday coming up and what could be cuter than this dinosaur birthday banner? Because I have so many projects I want to complete before the big day, I took advantage of a few ready-made pieces to bring this banner together quickly - including Joy iron-on embroidered letters.

Supplies:

  • Joy Letters
  • Chipboard banner set
  • Wood dinosaur and palm tree pieces
  • Coastal and Brushed Metal paints from Plaid Crafts
  • adhesives, ribbons, paintbrushes, hot glue gun/sticks

I painted each chipboard piece in the background color, then added some gold highlights to each one. When dry, I used a white paint pen to add a few details.  You can certainly iron the letters onto the chipboard (I have done that before) but for the sake of speed, I used doubled-sided tape to attach the letters. Use hot glue to attach the wood pieces to the banner sections on the ends. Run a long ribbon through each of the chipboard pieces along with some smaller pieces of ribbon between each banner section. Done and ready to party!

Paper Mache Fairy Wand

My sweet princess loves to play dress-up. So of course she needed a fairy wand to complete her wardrobe collection.  This sweet wand came together so quickly using a paper mache star I picked up at Michaels. A little paint, a little ink, a few letters and POOF - a wand was born!

These smaller sized Classic Monogram letters from Joy were perfect for this project. I chose the plain font in white- so I could color them to match my project.

I used a ready-made paper maché star, then painted it, crackled it and added some gold details. Since it is paper, the paint dried really quickly - so no time spent watching paint dry!

It is so easy to color your letters using a variety of mediums. My favorite is chalk ink - it's opaque so it covers in one coat. Put your letters on a piece of scratch paper and simply press the ink pad down on them to color. Set aside to dry.

After I added my letters I finished the project with paper flowers and lots of twine to give it a frilly, girly look. She is so in love with it!

You can find Joy embroidered iron-on numbers and letters in a variety of fonts, colors and sizes at your local craft store.

Princess Fairy Tale Purse

Princess purse
Hi everyone, it's Anita from The Flamingo Chronicals and today I want to share a fun Fairy Tale Purse that I made for my sweet princess. My sweet girl loves the little Fairy Wand I made for  her using Joy Iron-on letters a few months ago and this little purse will be the perfect accessory.

Supplies:

Joy® Iron On Monogram Letters

Paper flowers

Pre decorated canvas bag (this one is from Hobby Lobby)

These letters make adding a monogram incredibly easy! They are all designed to work together- just select one letter from each set and you are ready to go. Remember, the last initial goes in the middle of the monogram!

DIY Child Purse

I started with the center of the monogram - the large "V" and ironed it on first. Then I added the first and middle initials one at a time to make sure I got them placed in the correct position.  To finish the project off I sprayed a little bit of sparkle dust on the flowers. Patriotic Mini Canvases

Patriotic Blocks mantle decor

It's time to decorate for 4th of July and I always like to display a little something cute on the top of my piano (really it's to keep the cats from laying there). I picked up these 4" pre-printed canvas blocks at Michaels, along with some Joy 3" Varsity Block Letters.

supplies for mantle decor
In addition to the blocks and letters I used a variety of embellishments from my studio. Blue Fern Studios Chipboard, Maya Road bling, DecoArt Antiquing Creme and Metallic Lustre, Art Anthology mini Doilies, and twine.

mantle decor canvas block patriotic

Using antiquing cream on the surface gave the blocks the aged look I wanted, then I added a the Metallic Lustre using a sponge for highlights.

decorated canvas block

Each block was decorated with a variety of bits and pieces to give them some visual interest. The chipboards were inked with VersaMagic and then I added highlights with a white pen.

Everything, including the letters, was adhered using my SureBonder low-temp glue gun. The little red flower is from Maya Road too.

TIP: Did you know that if you have little "strings" from your hot glue on your project that giving them a little shot with a heat gun melts them away?

Re-Purposed Flower Bin using Joy Iron On Letters

Spring is still in the air here in North Texas and I love having fresh flowers in the house. I generally have them in every room and I am always on the lookout for new ways to display them. I picked these little metal bins up at Michael's a while back for another purpose but they didn't work out for that. I have been looking for something to use the for. BAM! I added some Joy Iron-On Letters along with some fun embellishments. Hello new flower pot!

I started with the container, a set of Eileen Hull dies, Aleen's Clear Gel Tacky Glue, and the Joy Iron-On Letters.

For this project I used one of the Baby Monogram Alphabet Sheets in white. (not shown, sorry!)

Because I couldn't iron these letters on, I simply glued them instead using Glossy Accents.

I cut a variety of flowers and leaves and layered them on the side, then added some interest with a white chalk pen.

I love the way this turned out - and the fact that I was able to use something that was taking up space in my studio!

Dollar Store Candles with Joy Iron on Letters

One of my Christmas craft goals this year was to create a few more items with less expensive supplies - enter the Dollar Store Candle make-over! $1 for the candle at the Dollar Store and all the other embellishments were in my stash. Adding the Joy Iron on Letters to a crisp ribbon really sets it off.

I adhered some burlap ribbon around the candle then started piling on the embellishments. Ribbons, floral buds, flowers, chipboard, wood veneer snowflakes, glitter, stick pins - yep I added it all! Then added a little bit of stickles to glam it up a bit.  To finish it off I ironed Joy letters onto some grosgrain ribbon and added right over the top of the pile. Done!

I hope you are ready for Christmas and are able to celebrate with your family close by. We are having some record highs here in Dallas- a little dusting of snow would be nice!

Halloween Candy Jar

personalized gift tags candy jar

I love to give away treats on any and all holidays and creative packaging makes them extra special. When I am short on time, I always turn to mason jars - they are easy to decorate, reusable, and who doesn't like to get a jar full of goodness?  I used Joy iron-on letters for this project - they are quick and easy to add to any project!

The amazing METAL RIBBON I picked up at Hobby Lobby - I am pretty enamored of this stuff at the moment! I also used  a piece of Deco Mesh left over from another project, some grosgrain ribbon and some twine.

personalized gift tag
For the tag I stamped the background with an a Background Basics stamp by Ann Butler for ClearSnap. These stamps are so flexible - I have used them on so many projects! Once I had the tag ready, I added my Joy Iron On Letters with craft glue rather than ironing them on since I was working on paper.  The fall leaf embellishment is also from Hobby Lobby.

Thanks so much for stopping by today!

I'm 1 Onesie

The Princess will be one very shortly (which I can't believe!) and of course she will need something to wear while eating cake. Out came my iron on letters from Joy.

http://www.joysa.com/

I wanted to make something quick and easy, because I am pretty sure she will only be able to wear it this one time.

Here is the princess in her custom made onesie- and she is ready to eat some cake!
I picked up super cute onesie at Target and grabbed my Baby Monogram Letters and Numbers in Upper Case White. I dyed them to match the onesie using spray ink and ironed on following the instructions found HERE on the Joy website. There is not an apostrophe with the set, so I trimmed a tiny bit off the "1" to make one.

Creating With Joy Letters

I was so happy to be given this opportunity and equally happy to be working with such a wonderfully talented group of ladies. Here is my first project.

Back at CHA (Craft Hobby Association) Super Show in January I was so lucky to get in on a wonderful traveling Make N Take on opening day sponsored by American Crafts, Heidi Swapp, Bazzill Basics Paper, and a few other marvelous companies. I was given this canvas album, complete with page inserts, and lots of embellies to decorate it. It has been sitting on my shelf mocking me since then because I have not been able to decide what to do with it.

As soon as I received my letters from Joy this album came to mind. Perfect for the Princess, yes? The album came with the silver star on the front. Who doesn't need more silver sequins in their lives? It is a little hard to see but I gave the background on the left side a spray of Heidi Swapp Color Shine in Gold for a little contrast on the canvas.

To dye my letters, which came a bright white, I used ColorBox Spritzers Ink diluted with a little water. I mixed the ink/water on my craft mat and pushed the letters around in the solution for a bit, then dried with my heat gun.
The super cute little stars are also from Joy and dyed using the same technique. I added ribbon from Decorative Trimmings and Maya Road, a few flowers, and buttons from Buttons Galore and More.

Don't forget to hop through the Designer Crafts Connections Web Ring and be sure to check out the Joy S.A. web page here to see all of their amazing products.
